Linux and Open Source

In 1991, Linus Torvalds released a kernel he had been developing based on the Minix flavor of Unix. When this was combined with system binaries and drivers developed through the Free Software Foundation's GNU project, a juggernaut was born. Today there are more than 100 distributions of Linux, and it is being used in a growing number of corporate servers and desktops around the world.

Server Administration

The low resource usage, robust error handling, and multiuser capabilities that Linux provides makes it the ideal server environment. Pixelogiq can install and configure your Linux system for use as a file server, firewall appliance, proxy server and more. The fact that the majority of web servers in use are running some version of Linux is a testament to its capabilities. These servers can be easily integrated into a Windows environment.

Linux and Unix Training

At Pixelogiq, we never tire of spreading the word about Linux. Although more people continue to adopt Linux, one of the main impediments to greater adoption is the shortage of knowledgeable support staff. We not only support Linux systems, we also share our expertise with our clients. Our GNU/Linux training programs cover bash commands, window managers, server configuration, networking issues, hardware support, and more.

Open Source Development

The open source software development model is governed by a number of end user license agreements (e.g., GPL) that allow developers to modify the code of an existing project, with some very liberal restrictions. The large number of open source projects at our disposal often provide starting points for us to create customized applications for your organization. Call us to discuss this exciting option.

Legacy Systems Support

Very few organizations are still using MS-DOS, Windows 95, or RedHat 6.0. However, for those that are tied to these operating systems because of critical applications and compatibility issues, it may be difficult to find support. Pixelogiq continues to offer support services for legacy systems, including FreeDOS installation, legacy media conversion, and system maintenance. We may even find a way to free you from the past.
